Featured Plant

We have Cornus sericea represented at the Peace and Friendship Garden located between UMUC and the President’s Residence. The two selections at that location are ‘Flaviramea’ which has yellow twigs and ‘Baileyi’ which has red twigs. At the east end of Morrill Quadrangle we have Cornus alba ‘Ivory Halo’ which is a variegated form with red twigs. East of Symons Hall we have Cornus alba ‘Bud’s Yellow’ another yellow-twigged selection. We recently received a donation of small Cornus sanguinea ‘Arctic Sun’ plants for installation on campus later this spring, perhaps as part of a volunteer planting project. Interested in volunteer opportunities? E-mail the Arboretum and our Volunteer Coordinator will assist you in finding the right project for you or your organization.

As we wait for the blossoms of spring, challenge yourself to locate these plants and other trees and shrubs with colorful bark nestled into the campus landscape.
